Within a crisis team, the chairperson and the logger form a crucial duo. The synergy between these two key roles directly impacts the performance of the entire crisis team. In this blog, I offer four tips to achieve successful collaboration between the chairperson and the logger.
To begin, it is highly beneficial for chairpersons and loggers to have insight into each other's roles. It is advisable for them to discuss their respective roles during crisis meetings in the preparatory phase. Fulfilling these roles extends beyond merely chairing or logging the meeting technically. Encourage them to explain to each other the steps they follow and the challenges they face. This will prove invaluable when they later collaborate within a crisis team under high pressure.
It is beneficial for the chairperson and the logger to sit in close proximity at the meeting table. This facilitates the logger in subtly supporting the chairperson during the meeting. In this way, the logger assists in monitoring the meeting process.
It greatly assists the logger when the chairperson summarizes the essence of a crisis team member's input. Especially with complex points, this makes it easier to log that input (such as situational awareness or judgment).
It is advisable for the chairperson and the logger to review the logbook together after a meeting. At that point, the logger can correct any necessary entries in the logbook. Furthermore, this assists the chairperson in preparing for the next crisis meeting.
