We want to help every organization in the Netherlands be as well-prepared as possible for a crisis. When we guide our clients through this process, we always follow a set step-by-step plan. We have now incorporated this plan into our Crisis Management Maturity Model. We are making this model available free of charge to every organization. In addition, we have developed a QuickScan that allows you to easily conduct a self-assessment. This tool is free and can be found here.

Maturity model as a roadmap

By definition, a crisis is a situation in which you don’t know what will happen. To prepare for such a situation, you need to take a general approach. At Merlin, we use a step-by-step plan for this. This process provides clarity and ensures that we can proactively help an organization improve its crisis management capabilities—at a low cost and without overburdening the organization.

We have now developed this step-by-step plan into the Merlin Crisis Management Maturity Model (MCV), which I recently wrote an article about. This model is intended for any crisis professional who wants to know where they stand and what their next step might be.

The model outlines all the key components of crisis management and suggests a sequence for implementing them. This helps you identify areas of weakness and better prepare your crisis response team.

QuickScan as an indicator of your position

The MCV is a roadmap with logical steps for getting from A to B. The QuickScan helps you place the big red arrow on the roadmap: “You are here.”

In the QuickScan, you’ll answer a few questions. These questions help us determine which components you’ve implemented and at what level. Your answers will give us an indication of your current level of maturity.

After completing the QuickScan, you will receive a report from us. In addition to assessing your organization’s maturity level, we will provide suggestions for areas of improvement. This will help you identify the steps that will yield quick results and help you reach the next level. In addition to the report, you will also receive a number of useful templates. One of these templates is a sample crisis management plan. You can also download it directly via this link.

Provide insights to the rest of the organization

We see that many crisis management organizations still find it challenging to get the rest of the organization on board. The maturity model and the QuickScan help involve executives and other stakeholders in the improvement process, making it easier to build support for the necessary investments.
