“The great thing about CrisisSuite is that it brings together all the activities of your crisis management team in a single system,” says Guus van Genuchten, account manager at Merlin. “For example, many crisis coordinators use an Excel spreadsheet to track whether everyone is completing the required training. There’s obviously a smarter, more efficient, and clearer way to do this. That’s why we developed this module, so you can also record training sessions and drills within the same platform.”

In the training module, you can specify which qualification profile an official must meet. “For example, you can set it so that the chair of a crisis team must participate in a tabletop exercise once a year,” Guus explains. “When you then hold a tabletop exercise, you can easily check off who is present for the exercise. This way, the module keeps track of exactly whether everyone is completing the right training and exercises.”

Skills Overview

The module also includes a competency overview. Here, a crisis coordinator can see at a glance which competencies the members of their crisis organization have not yet updated. “The nice thing about this overview is that you can select a reference date,” says Guus. “Suppose you want to plan training sessions for the coming six months. Then you select that reference date in the system. You’ll then get a single overview that shows exactly who needs to be trained over the next six months and which training sessions are appropriate to bring their competencies back up to date. The great thing is that you can also use this module to invite people to a training session or exercise. You can even set up an e-learning course for them within CrisisSuite so they can prepare thoroughly.”

Over the past six months, Merlin has been running a pilot of this module in two hospitals and one hospital network organization. “We’ve heard from our clients that they appreciate being able to manage all their R&D activities within this module,” says Guus. Merlin plans to roll out the tool to more organizations across various sectors in the coming year.

In acute care, Standard 9 of the Crisis Management Quality Framework and OTO 2.0 applies: The organization ensures the professional competence of key personnel. The training module aligns seamlessly with this standard and helps hospitals and healthcare institutions implement it.
