March 8, 2024

How is the European grid operator TenneT preparing for a blackout? And what are the latest insights regarding crisis communication during a cyber crisis? These are examples of topics that took center stage during the first edition of Crisis Management Boost on March 7, 2024. It was an inspiring day!

We organized this event for crisis managers to share knowledge, inspire one another, and network.

Chairperson Martijn Vinke kicked off the day with the theme of Resilience: "Crisis management is about how we work together to ensure that we can recover and emerge from the crisis stronger."

What if nothing works anymore?

During his presentation titled “What if nothing works anymore?”, Sebastiaan Barlagen explained how TenneT prepares for a blackout. It offered a unique glimpse into the advanced systems that continuously balance supply and demand in the European power grid to ensure continuity.

Deep dive sessions

In the afternoon, the participants split up into the deep dive sessions:

Marcel Vielvoije of Northwave Cyber Security took participants through a simulated cyber crisis. He demonstrated how cybercriminals ramp up the pressure on executives and the organization. He also explained how IT forensics and legal considerations must be factored into crisis communication.

Michaël Bertels worked with the participants using his cascade model for crisis decision-making. The participants used scenarios from their own organizations for this exercise.

In his in-depth session, René de Jong discussed the latest developments in CrisisSuite. We also discussed practical issues related to crisis management based on the participants’ real-world experiences.

In conclusion

Thank you to all participants, speakers, and colleagues for making this first edition possible!
