Turn off your phones during crisis meetings

Crisis team members: do not answer your phone during crisis meetings!
While this may seem logical, I have frequently observed it occurring during crisis exercises...

The problem is as follows:

If you answer the call, the crisis meeting will be disrupted. Either the team must halt the meeting, and everyone waits until you have concluded your call. Or the team continues the meeting, and as a crisis team member, you miss a significant portion of the decision-making process. Neither scenario is desirable.

Furthermore, if you were to answer the call, you would receive new information. Introducing this information directly into the crisis meeting would then disrupt the crisis team's decision-making process. This, too, is undesirable.

This is one of the reasons why crisis meetings should be kept brief, ideally lasting no more than 15 to 20 minutes.

Should it be necessary for your phone to be answered during a crisis meeting, please entrust it to a support staff member while you are engaged in crisis discussions.
